Your Leather Jacket Has Arrived! Important Care Tips and Information

Welcome to Shearlord! We’re thrilled that you’ve chosen us for your new leather jacket. To ensure you get the most from your purchase, we’ve put together some key care tips and important information.

Does Your Jacket Have a Strong Leather Odor?

It’s natural for a new leather jacket to have a stronger scent when first unpacked, especially as our jackets are made from high-grade recycled sheepskin and produced without chemical treatments.

This initial odor will dissipate with regular wear, revealing the rich, characteristic scent of leather. The process typically takes just a few weeks.

For a quicker solution, you can place a perfumed sheet or sachet inside the jacket to help reduce the odor.

Are There Small Scratches or Cuts on the Leather?

As sheepskin is a natural material, it’s not uncommon for jackets to have minor scratches or cuts. These marks often reflect the animal’s natural environment and are a sign of the leather's authenticity.

While we strive to minimize any visible imperfections, these small marks are part of the leather’s unique character. If the scratches are more visible, we recommend using a beeswax-based leather balm. Apply gently with a soft cloth or sponge, working the balm into the leather evenly to restore its appearance. Be careful to avoid uneven application that could cause dark spots.

Are There Loose Threads on Your Jacket?

Since all of our jackets are meticulously hand-crafted from recycled sheepskin, it’s possible you may notice some loose threads at the seams. This is a common result of the hand-making process.

To fix this, carefully trim any loose threads with a small pair of scissors or burn the ends with a lighter. Just be sure not to cut too close to the stitching to avoid compromising the integrity of the seams.

Is Your Jacket Not Exactly as Seen in the Photos?

Our jackets are crafted from natural, vegetable-tanned sheepskin using minimal chemical treatments, which means each jacket can vary slightly in color and texture. Lighting and screen settings can also affect how the jacket appears in photos.

Please remember that each jacket is unique—these natural variations are part of what makes your jacket one-of-a-kind.

Do You See Marks on Your Jacket?

Occasionally, you may notice small white marks on your jacket. These are a natural result of the oils in the sheepskin and can be easily removed.

To remove the marks, simply use a clean cloth or sponge to gently rub the affected area. The marks will disappear as the leather absorbs the oils back in.
